About The Event
Dear students,
This upcoming Tuesday January 24th at 6pm in Room 210, we will host a special guest, Ahmed Massud, who will be discussing Migration Trends in the Middle East/Yemen, Africa and Europe. He will also share his own personal experiences as a refugee.
Ahmed is a former St. John’s Rome student. He has worked with UNHCR as Associate Protection in the IDP/Returnees section as a refugee here in Italy. He was also working with the United Nations for Peace Keeping Operations (UNDPKO) and (UNAMID/Darfur-Sudan) as a Civil Affairs Officer in the capacity of planning Quick Impact Projects/Local Governance Capacity building (QIP) and Conflict Management. He has, among other things, authored articles for Oxford University on refugee studies and translated the “UNHCR Protection Tool” into Somali which is now used worldwide. Ahmed was born in Somalia and also holds Yemeni citizenship.
We hope you will all attend! It will be a great opportunity to hear first-hand about refugees’ experiences and the type of work that is available in this field.
